CERTIFICATION
Eligibility
To be eligible for CRN-BC certification by portfolio, the registered nurse (RN) must meet the following requirements:

ï‚· Current and unencumbered RN License or country equivalent

ï‚· 2 years minimum as an RN
-
Minimum of 4000 practice hours in the clinical research nurse
role (not including hours in residency or orientation) in the
previous 3 years of time of application​ -
Continuing Professional Development (CPD): The combination
of CE points and professional activity (PA) points MUST equal
the required 100 points-
CE points
-
a minimum of 36 and a maximum of 50 CE points earned
within the 3-year window proceeding submission of an application for
certification.;​-
​ALL CE points must be in clinical research for
initial certification -
If conference/activity attended had primary focus
of clinical topics outside of clinical research, points
from the clinical research sessions may still be
claimed (every 30 minutes = 0.5 CE points) -
ALL CE points must be offered by an
approved/accredited provider: -
Nursing education (Continuing Nursing
Education [CNE]/Nursing Continuing
Professional Development [NCPD]
 Continuing medical education (CME)

ï‚· Professional Activity (PA) points

a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 64 PA points (in at
least 2 categories) required for initial certification -
For initial certification, all PA activities MUST be in
clinical research except where noted in categories 2, 3
and 4. Activities may be used only once in the
application. -
50-64 points of Professional activities earned within the ​5-year window proceeding submission of an application for certification.;

and webinars/podcasts -
Scholarly editing and writing on clinical research

Research and scholarly projects

Advanced professional activities

Academic work

Professional Clinical Research Nursing Exemplar
